Begonia 'Old Blue'is a new hybrid that has just been introduced. This rhizomatous type is a cross of B. U489 and B. sizemoreae. It has large oval shaped leaves that are sparsely covered with long white hairs. The leaf blade is a gray color with a silver band around the leaf. Under certain light conditions the gray in the leaf has a bluish iridescence. The back of the leaf is red. It blooms most of the year with graceful blush pink flowers. This is a fast grower and will make a large specimen. It has a large mounding growth habit.
Weirdly, this begonia is mostly green and burgundy colored, not blue.
Begonia 'Old Blue': Shade to partial shade, temp. 45 to 95 degrees, 12 to 15 in. tall, allow getting fairly dry between waterings.
