Dendrobium lawesii or Lawes' dendrobium is an orchid which was first found by plant collector William Lawes on Papua New Guinea. These orchids also grow on a number of other island north of Australia (at an altitude between 800 and 1200 meters), on the underside of tree branches. The flowers are a little over 1 cm and remarkably beautiful; there is a wide variety of flower colors in the species. The Dendrobium lawesii offered have a red-pink flower color, as seen on the photo. The plants can grow in a hanging basket or upright along a stick.Â
Roots require a lot of airflow, so mounted on cork is ideal. Care is similar to phaelenopsis even though the look is quite different.
