Vriesea fenestralis, is a large growing Vriesea with beautiful wide, curling, ribbon like leaves. The top of the leaves are finely lineated with varying degrees of green and yellow. The underside of the leaves are spotted with maroon. Its shape is a full open rosette. Produces a pale yellow spike when blooming that can reach up to 24 inches. Native to Brazil. Typical growth height up to 24 inches with a spread of up to 24 inches.
Vriesea can be grown similarly to air plants as they are epiphytic in nature. They use their roots to hang on to rocks, bark, and soil. If planting in soil use a mix of orchid and bromeliad substrate. Lightly water the planting substrate when it is dry. Water in the central reservoir of the plant where it will take in most of its water to avoid root rot. Fertilizing by adding into the central reservoir when watering. Avoid high and low temps. Bright filtered light. In hotter, higher light they prefer a more humid environment.
