With it's striking dark leaves, Alocasia 'Regal Shield' is one of the most popular varieties of Alocasia. It can reach a height of six feet tall, so definitely give it room to grow and don't be afraid to pot it up a size every year.
Requiring temperatures of around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, the Alocasia 'Regal Shield’ likes bright but mostly indirect sun. It requires a well-drained soil, but the soil itself should be kept lightly moist at all times. Watering should therefore be light but frequent. Humidity levels should be higher than average, and you may wish to artificially humidify the room to keep the plant happy. The Alocasia ‘Regal Shield’ will benefit from a light fertilizer every couple of weeks during the spring and summer. If light levels dip too low or if the temperature drops during the winter, your Alocasia will go dormant. Lighten up on the watering and don't freak out when you go down to one or even no leaves. It will bounce back again in the Spring.
