Due to its stylish appearance suiting modern apartments Dracaena 'Compacta' is one of the most well loved houseplants. The Dracaena Compacta is believed to be a variety of dracaena deremensis ‘Janet Craig’. Compacta is smaller and more compact, and it grows much more slowly. Because of their slow growth, larger specimens are uncommon and can be expensive.
The Dracaena compacta plant is grown as a foliage plant characterized by thick, stiff, glossy dark green leaves, which spread out to form rosettes around the canes. Though it is rare, sometimes ear-like white or pink flowers grow from the middle of the rosette and give out an intense honey scent.
Dracaenas in nature actually prefer to be evenly moist, but when kept in low light they should be allowed to dry out so as to avoid root rot.
