Macodes sanderianais a warm growing terrestrial jewel orchid from Papua New Guinea that grows at 1000 to 2000 ft elevation, and is found growing in leaf-litter on and on rocks on the rain forest floor.
They have oval leaves that look similar to Macodes petola, but as they mature take on orange tones. Gradually the squares of the geometric pattern turn black with lime green veins at the leaf base, yellow gold in the middle and orange towards the leaf tip. The whole leaf shifts and changes its color as it ages ending in a black collection of squares with yellow netting and a purplish underside.
This plant blooms in the fall and winter on a 10 to 12 inch (25 to 30 cm) tall thin spike with few, brown flowers. We actually recommend pinching this flower off so that the plant can focus on its leaves!
Light: Medium Water: Frequently Humidity: Above 60% is ideal Temperature: 70-80 degrees during the day, with a night time drop into the 60s is ideal.
