"RICE&INK is founded in 2018 with devotion to Sumi ink illustrations inspired by animals and symbolic images, especially my Shiba Inu dog who is in a Love-hate relationship with me. My illustrations are capturing the spirit, emotions, and simple beauty of the subjects with brushstrokes and smudges of ink. My style could be traditional, yet heart-warming and whimsical. RICE&INK cards and prints have no words. I know that is a big risk for a stationery business, but I’ve experienced through my life as a mother and as a foreigner who didn’t know how to speak that countries’ languages, simple heart-warming actions or warm looks on its eyes can tell you more than what people believe. I learned the importance of sharing the emotions, and building deeper relationships through intentional actions while I've been really growing with my business with my two toddlers. (Fun facts - 2018: Launched R&I - Birth of my first child | 2020 : Opened business - my second child arrived!) WHY SHIBA as a PERSONA ? Twelve years ago, my husband and I decided to adopt a Shiba Inu that we found from Shiba Rescue. It sounds so simple, but being a Shiba Inu owner has been very challenging – lots of biting, anxiety, escaping, and destruction of couches! The natural characteristics of the Shiba Inu breed, plus a sad abandonment story, made him the most difficult dog in the world. But at the same time, he became an interesting character for me – the way villains are more attractive… and fun"
