Alsobia dianthiflora, known as the Lace Flower, is a delicate ground-covering plant from the forests of Central and South America. It belongs to the Gesneriad family and is appreciated for its soft, velvety leaves and intricate white flowers edged with lace-like fringes. This plant’s growth habit makes it particularly suited for terrariums or as a lush addition to small indoor garden spaces.
As a houseplant, Alsobia does require some warmth and humidity and does well under artificial light, or on a windowsill. The plant prefers well-drained and somewhat moisture-retentive soil, such as standard African Violet soil mixes.
Basic Care of Alsobia dianthiflora:
-
Light: Does best in moderate to bright indirect light; direct sun can be harmful.
-
Watering: Maintain consistent moisture in the soil and mist frequently to replicate a humid environment.
-
Soil: A peat-based, well-draining mix with plenty of organic matter is ideal.
-
Feeding: A half-strength balanced fertilizer can be applied every other week during active growth periods.
-
Potting: Shallow, well-draining pots are best, with repotting only needed infrequently.
