Dioon edule, commonly known as the Chestnut Dioon, is an evergreen cycad native to Mexico. It is renowned for its stiff, blue-green leaves that form a dense crown atop a thick, shaggy trunk. This ancient plant species adds a prehistoric touch to any garden setting or as an indoor specimen, and is a staple among cycad collectors.
For proper care, Dioon edule should be planted in well-draining soil and positioned in a spot that receives full sunlight indoors and partial sunlight outdoors. It is drought-tolerant once established but benefits from regular watering during its active growing season in the spring and summer. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
