This gorgeous hybrid blooms with purple to indigo flowers that have a slightly spicy fragrance. It is a cross between the genera Zygothaleae, which includes Zygopetalum, and Oncidium. The 'Blue Birds' variety specifically incorporates the Zygothaleae species Zygopetalum and the Oncidium species.
This class of orchids sends up spikes from the base of the newest emerging growths, most often in the spring and fall. Because of the Aganisia in the background, these can grow warmer than standard Zygopetalum. Water as the moss becomes lightly damp to the touch. Place in bright, gentle light.
