Maxillaria tenuifolia (Coconut Pie Orchid)

Maxillaria tenuifolia is a warm to intermidiate growing orchid found in rain forests at low elevation to 3,000ft. It isn't super picky about temperature and can be grown happily indoors or outdoors in temperate climates. They bloom in spring, and their deep red / yellow flowers smell *strongly* of coconut!! You have to smell it to believe it. Their blooms last a week to ten days on average, but longer if the plant is kept cool. They're easy to grow and a good choice for beginners! Highly recommended!
