Adenia perrieri is a rare caudiciform vine from Madagascar, prized for its knobby, bonsai-like caudex and lobed foliage. Over time, the caudex thickens into a textured, sculptural form that’s as intriguing as it is beautiful. While the plant may occasionally bloom with tiny green flowers, it’s primarily treasured for its dramatic leaf shape.

You may have glimpsed this plant on Instagram. Enthusiasts regularly highlight its unforgettable form in reels and stories

Care Overview
Light: Bright gentle light to full sun—gradually acclimate if increasing intensity.
Temperature: Warm temperatures preferred (65–90°F); shield from below 55°F.
Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity and good air movement.
Water: In active growth, water after soil nearly dries; reduce during dormancy.
Soil: Extremely fast-draining cactus/succulent mix with extra perlite or pumice.
Fertilizer: Monthly feeding during growth with diluted succulent fertilizer.

Careful Indoors:
Give it bright light (sunniest window or grow light) in a well-draining pot. Water sparingly—cut back in winter to avoid caudex rot. Use filtered or distilled water, though high-quality tap like San Francisco’s Hetch Hetchy is acceptable.

Coastal Bay Area Outdoors:
In warmer, frost-free spots, Adenia perrieri can thrive on sun-drenched patios or in a conservatory, provided it’s shielded from excessive rain and cold. Regular drainage and minimal winter watering are key.

Pet safe: No – toxic; keep well out of reach
Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced—best for growers with patience and attention to dormancy and drainage
