A dramatic, collector-focused Begonia hybrid that brings together three beloved species known for texture, depth, and presence. Begonia (darthvaderiana × malachosticta × negrosensis) typically shows dark, brooding foliage with pronounced veining, heavy texture, and a sculptural quality. This is a Begonia for people who love moody plants and are happy to slow down and pay attention.

Light
Bright gentle light is ideal. Too little light can cause leggy growth and softer leaf texture; harsh direct sun may scorch the foliage. An east-facing window or bright filtered light works beautifully.

Water
Water when the top inch of soil dries out. Keep moisture consistent but never allow the plant to sit in water. Begonias are sensitive to overwatering and will decline quickly in soggy conditions.

Water note: In San Francisco—or anywhere using the Hetch Hetchy water system—tap water is generally safe to use. If your local water is very hard, filtered or distilled water is preferred.

Soil
Use a loose, well-aerated mix. A high-quality indoor potting mix amended with perlite, pumice, or fine orchid bark helps prevent compaction and root rot.

Humidity
Moderate humidity (40–60%) is ideal. In many coastal homes, ambient humidity is sufficient. Avoid misting leaves, which can encourage spotting or fungal issues.

Temperature
Prefers stable temperatures between 65–80°F. Protect from cold drafts, heaters, and sudden temperature swings.

Feeding
Feed lightly during active growth (spring through early fall) with a diluted balanced fertilizer once a month. Overfeeding can lead to soft growth and reduced leaf quality.
