Codiaeum variegatum ‘Mrs. Iceton’

Not your average Croton!!!  Its leaves begin in shades of green and golden yellow, then gradually develop peach, pink, red, burgundy, and deep purple tones as they age. Because each leaf changes on its own schedule, an established plant can carry an entire tropical palette at once. Its broad, leathery foliage and shifting coloration make it one of the most dynamic Croton cultivars in cultivation.

(The plant is frequently shortened to Croton ‘Iceton’ and is also sold as ‘Red Iceton.’ However, ‘Mrs. Iceton’ is the more established cultivar name.)

Give ‘Mrs. Iceton’ abundant bright, gentle light, including some direct morning or late-afternoon sun.

Strong light is essential for developing its characteristic pink, red, and burgundy pigmentation. In insufficient light, the plant may survive, but new leaves are likely to remain predominantly green, growth may become sparse, and older leaves may drop.An east-facing window is excellent. A position close to a south- or west-facing window can also work, provided intense afternoon sun is filtered or introduced gradually. A grow light can be extremely helpful during the Bay Area’s darker winter months. Water thoroughly when the upper 1–2 inches of soil feel dry, then allow excess water to drain completely.
