Hoya sp. Rangsan “Splash” is a stunning and sought-after variety known for its thick, dark green leaves heavily dusted with silvery splashes. The leaves are slightly elongated and gently textured. Compact, sculptural, and slow to start, this variety rewards patience with strong vines and occasional clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers when mature.
Light: Thrives with plenty of bright gentle light. Direct sun is ok as long as the sun is not scorching hot.
Temperature: Enjoys typical indoor conditions (60–85°F).
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–70%), but generally adapts well to regular household conditions, especially in the bay area.
Water: Let the top 1–2 inches of soil dry between waterings. Avoid overwatering—Hoyas like to breathe.
Potting mix: Use a loose, well-draining mix rich in chunky materials like bark, perlite, and coco coir.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the growing season with diluted orchid or houseplant fertilizer.
How to grow Hoya sp. Rangsan “Splash” indoors:
Give it a bright, warm spot with good airflow and let the soil dry slightly between waterings. Hoyas thrive when slightly rootbound and love climbing or trailing. Use distilled or filtered water if your tap water is hard—though San Francisco’s Hetch Hetchy supply is usually fine. Flowers may appear once the plant is mature and well-established.
How to grow Hoya sp. Rangsan “Splash” outdoors in the Bay Area:
Best suited for frost-free microclimates. Grow outdoors in a sheltered patio or balcony with bright gentle light and protection from wind or temps below 50°F. Bring inside during colder months.
Pet safe: Yes
Difficulty: Easy to intermediate. A bit slow to get going but very rewarding over time.
