Parentage:
Pinguicula ehlersiae × P. mesophytica

Pinguicula x “Estrellita”
is a charming Mexican butterwort hybrid celebrated for its delicate rosettes and starry flowers. Its name means “little star” in Spanish—a fitting tribute to both its compact, luminous foliage and its vibrant blooms.

The rosettes feature pale green leaves that will turn a charming ballet slipper pink when grown under bright lights. Those leaves are covered in sticky glands that glisten like dew and trap small insects. When in flower, “Estrellita” produces striking blossoms that highlight the best traits of both parents: the dainty form of P. ehlersiae and the color intensity of P. mesophytica.

This hybrid is perfect for growers who want a ping with both beautiful foliage and showy blooms. Easy to grow under lights or on a bright windowsill, it’s a rewarding choice for hobbyists and collectors alike.

Handle with care, these can be fragile and don't love to be disturbed.

🌱 Plant Care

  • Light: Bright light indoors (in a sunny windowsill), or under strong grow lights for best color.

  • Water: During active growth, keep soil damp with distilled, rain, or Hetch Hetchy tap water. In dormancy, water lightly and allow soil to nearly dry. These plants can be grown year round without going into true dormancy if the temperature and lights do not change.

  • Soil: Open, well-draining carnivorous mix (often sand/perlite with peat or similar).

  • Humidity: Moderate household humidity is sufficient; thrives in terrarium conditions.
