Native to Somalia, Pseudolithos migiurtinus is a miniature, leafless succulent that looks more like a weathered pebble than a plant. Its textured, lumpy surface and unusual cubic-to-rounded form give it an alien, sculptural appeal. In cultivation, it remains small—usually under 5 inches tall—and grows slowly, sometimes branching with age.

This species is prized for its rarity, unique appearance, and the precision it requires in care. When in bloom, it produces small, maroon-to-brown flowers with a distinctive scent designed to attract fly pollinators—strange, fascinating, and unforgettable.

Light: Bright gentle light to partial sun; avoid scorching midday rays. Does well under grow lights
Temperature: Warm conditions preferred; keep above 50°F.
Humidity: Low to moderate, with excellent airflow.
Water: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Keep almost dry in winter dormancy.
Soil: Extremely fast-draining, gritty mix with a high proportion of pumice or coarse sand.
Fertilizer: Light feeding during the growing season with a diluted cactus fertilizer.

How to grow Pseudolithos migiurtinus indoors:
Provide bright light and warm temperatures year-round. Use a small, well-draining pot to avoid excess moisture retention, and ensure good ventilation. Water only when the plant shows signs of active growth and the mix is completely dry. During winter dormancy, withhold water almost entirely.

How to grow Pseudolithos migiurtinus outdoors in the Bay Area:
Best grown in a container in a sheltered, frost-free spot with bright gentle light. Protect from rain, humidity spikes, and temperatures below 50°F. Bring indoors for the winter to maintain dryness and warmth.

Pet safe: Yes (based on ASPCA guidelines)
Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced—requires precise watering, warm conditions, and excellent drainage.
